You are just one person
At the end of the day, you are just one person and you also have limited amount of time. Therefore, you need to do something that are meaningful to you. You may have lots of milestone in a day but not all the milestone need to be achieve to be meaningful. Every person has their own strength and weakness, like and dislike and not every task is suitable for you. Therefore, you need to learn how to delegate some of your work to people who are more suitable than you.
What should you delegate?
There are tasks that you can delegate which is task you don’t enjoy doing. These are thing that you know how to do but you don’t enjoy doing it. Second is task you shouldn’t do. These are task that you know how to do and enjoy it but it may not be the best for your time. Third is task you can’t do. These task is things that you do not have the skill and expertise to complete it at this moment.
Pitfall of delegation
Let’s first discuss about task that you don’t enjoy doing it. It is quite difficult for someone to do something that he or she does not have interest with it. However, you may require to do it if it is part of your job and you have the required skill to do it. You can try to put in some activity that you like in the process of doing task that you don’t enjoy to make yourself feel less bored and let your mind have a small break before continue it
Next is about the task that you shouldn’t do. These task should be the first choice for many employees where everyone will like to do something they like. However, these task may not be a good choice for you to use your time to complete where it may not bring any benefit and productivity for you. Therefore, it is recommended to put these task in the process of task that you don’t enjoy doing it to remove your attention temporally from the task they you don’t enjoy doing it.
Last we talk about task you can’t do. These task is where require you to learn how to delegate your work effectively. It is impossible for you to complete a work where you do not have the skill that require for the work. Therefore, you may need to delegate the work to others that may have better experience than you to help you carry it out. It is also not easy to find someone that you can delegate the job easily where you need to find someone that you can trust and have good reputation of producing quality work.
