Be audience-centered
People will listen to you if you show that you listen to them as well so put more focus on audience than yourself. There is also another way to let others listen to you where you build beyond what they said. Example, you might say that, “I liked what Michael said about the improvement on the project and that suggestion is great” or “I take serious consideration on your suggestion and comment and I will include your suggestion inti the masterplan” By saying in this way, you will let the audience think that you not only talking alone but you also want them to involve in your talk. You also gibing credit to your audience and not losing the lead on them.
Have clear message
Audience will be more likely to listen to you when you have clear message that they can relate to. If you want to make sure that your audience really listen to point, you can try to say in this way, “my point is …” or “my main message is ….”. This can help the audience to pay more attention on your point when you mentioned these words. Try to be as clear as possible when communicate your message to your audience where audience will feel bored or just walk away if they think the message if blur and they cannot understand it.
Slow down
When you are speaking, try to not going with too fast pace where audience might need some time to have a pause and digest what is your point. If you talk too fast will show that you just concentrate on deliver your message and doesn’t think about whether audience able to receive it or not. Therefore, try to slow down the pace and put weight on information that you want to highlight about. Another way is to pause between your idea. Before you continue for next idea, pause for a while and let your audience absorb the information and they will pay more attention on your next idea.
Use body language
When mentioned about body language, the first thing that can be discussed is eyes contacted. When you say something, don’t always looking around and avoid eyes contact with your audience. If you keep doing this, audience will think that you are not respecting them and they will not respect you as well. Other than that, one action that people doesn’t often doing it is open their hand. Many people will close their hand when talking to make sure that they look formal and confidence. However, this will let your audience feel that you are stressed and not acting like you always do. Try to keep you hand open to show that you are comfortable and about what you say.
