Don’t just talk about yourself or anything about your business. When having conversation with others, try not to focus too much on yourself. Put more focus on other and try to discover more about the people that you are speaking to. If you just focus on yourself, others will not have the chance to talk about themselves and they will think you are a self-centered people that doesn’t care about others. Therefore, put more focus on others is one of the essential way to develop your network.
That sound familiar to me
Based on the information you gather in step 1, try to tell a similar situation that happened on you. However, don’t go on and on until you started to talk about yourself. Remember that your purpose is to build relationship and network and not to sell or promote something. Let others have more time on themselves to show that you actually want to know more about them and the will to have relationship with them.
Leverage and ask more open-ended question
Open ended question is question that does not have right or wrong answer. This type of question will let others feel relax and more willing to answer because they can answer anything that inside their mind. Keep listening to what others say and try to ask some question about their situation. After that, show your appreciation about sharing the story and state that you willing to know more about them. Then, try to ask them out again after few days or week to follow with them and keep the network strong.
