Human being need to feel a sense of purpose and this is important at work. However, research show that one-off financial bump may not actually improve performance. The real reason of showing gratitude to employee is to let them know that their contribution is matters to company and let them feel happy with it. Try to have a company parties and make message of thanks, say by delivering the poem to the employee or member that you want to show appreciation. This will let them have deeper memories that just have having salary increment.
