Willingness to learn
Technology is changing every day and programmer will get eliminated easily if they not willing to learn new program language. It is easy to find a skillful programmer but it is not easy to hired a programmer that willing to learn and update himself. When employer is interviewing a programmer, try to ask question like what do you do to keep your programming skills current to test whether they keep learning new programming language.
Coding is just part of programmer job. When some software doesn’t work normally, programmer is required to find out the problem and solve it effectively and efficiently. Therefore, it is recommended for employer to hired programmer that not just blindly make changes but prefer to carefully investigate his code and research on any possible issue until the problem is solved.
Grace under fire
Programmer is a position that need to stress constantly in their job. Therefore, it is a must for programmer to remain calm when deadline of project is approaching or when debugging. The example question that employer can ask candidates when interview like what is your most stressful time and how you handle. This will let employer to know whether the candidates able to handle stress and they can handle their stress effectively or not.
When a programmer too focuses on designing a program, they will lose sight of big picture. Programmer that have business perspective will help to suggest some new idea for application that can improve operation. This kind of programmer is the one that company want to hired where they not just contribute their programming skill, they also suggest new idea that company may not think about it.
