A negative employee can infect a work group or a team with negativity faster than you can imagine. If you manage people, you will eventually encounter a situation in which you need to manage a negative person. Here are steps that you can take to manage the negative employee.
Tell them the negative impact
Some people didn’t realize they are spreading negative energy to someone. Therefore, as a manager, you have the responsibility to tell them the impact and guide them how should they do to spread positive energy.
Ask them reasons of being negative
Concern on what happen in their work or personal life. Knowing this lets you offer sympathy or another appropriate expression of good or hopeful wishes. It can also help the employee see that you are interested in and concerned about them as a person. Even as you offer sympathy, though, you must ask the employee to keep the personal issues from affecting their workplace performance.
Don’t focus too much on their problem and negative. It will only cause the employee to dig himself more deeply into their grievances. Create positive morale for them by focus on find out solutions. You can share your opinion and concept to help him.
Any time you hear a positive statement or contribution rather than negativity from them, reinforce this attitude. You’ll want to reinforce, as much as possible, the positive interactions the employee has with other employees and the workplace.
